ALPFA Celebrates 40 Years Of Building Business Leadership

In 1972, a Latino college student might have felt lonely on campus. Not only was Latino college enrollment abysmal, but few campus organizations existed to help develop and connect them to professional opportunities. The same could be said for young Latino business professionals; many were dismayed by a lack of community of Latino colleagues and mentors to learn from, network with -- and who could, together -- work to open the doors to corporate America if not the global market.

The ALPFA founding members understood the need to build a Latino professional workforce that would contribute and compete in the region’s burgeoning economy. Today, as ALPFA celebrates its 40th anniversary with more than 18,000 members across 39 professional and 90 student chapters, ALPFA is the pre-eminent resource and authority of building Latino business leaders through its innovative programs and bold changes over the course of its existence...

Join us as we celebrate a milestone for ALPFA: 40 years of Latino Leadership!                  Our 40th Annual Convention will be in Las Vegas and we plan to outshine any convention we have ever had with the events, opportunities and excitement only ALPFA can bring.

Members of the Phoenix ALPFA Board of Directors attended the Tucson Women of ALPFA Awards Banquet on January 28, 2011 at the Skyline Resort in the Tucson Foothills.  Phoenician Linda Mazon Gutierrez was honored with an award.

ALPFA National and Senate Bill (SB) 1070:

"Arizona passed a very controversial immigration law that is being challenged both on its merits and constitutionality.  ALPFA is the largest Latino business professional association in the country and has student and professional chapters in Arizona.  It is probable that this law as it relates to racial profiling may negatively impact some of our members.  Accordingly, we believe that at a minimum amendments to SB 1070 should be amended to remove any possible racial profiling.  Laws like this raise the awareness of the importance of diversity initiatives and the relevance of organizations such as ALPFA. ALPFA must continue to create opportunities for Latinos across this country and be a vehicle for the importance of education and Latino leadership."
